Plé 2016 lectures - an opportunity to explore the Irish language
Sinn Féin MLA Rosie McCorley has welcomed the ‘Plé 16’ series of lectures to be held in Trinity College on the subject ‘What does “Gaelic and Free’ mean in 2016.
Ms. McCorley said,
“The series of lectures organised by Conradh na Gaeilge and the Irish language department in Trinity College will explore what it means to be Gaelic and Free in 2016.
“This will include the perceptions of the language within the Irish speaking community, non speakers, unionists and the promotion and conservation of the language.
“The lectures which will include a list of international speakers, as well as some from the Unionist tradition, are encouraging and to be welcomed.
"We should all be prepared to explore the diversity of the language and how people use it in a modern environment.
“The language belongs to everyone and threatens no one and this series of lectures will help put that message out so that more and more people can feel comfortable with its use.
“The first lecture will take place in in TCD’s Science Gallery, Dublin 2, at 7.00pm on Monday, 23 November 2015 and I would encourage people to attend these lectures.”
