McMullan to meet DSD minister over Glens social housing

23 November, 2015 - by Oliver McMullan

Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has said there is an urgent need for more social housing in the Glens area.

Mr McMullan said:

"Social housing is a pressing need in all communities but its lack is particularly felt in rural areas.

"Those on waiting lists in rural areas such as the Glens are often faced with the possibility of having to leave the area to move to urban environments to access social housing.

"As we face the challenges of an increasingly ageing population, there is a particular lack of social housing for older people, particularly bungalow type accommodation.

"I had written to the Social Development Minister requesting an urgent meeting to discuss the lack of social housing provision in the Glens area.

"I have now secured a meeting with Mervyn Storey to discuss this important issue next week.

"At that meeting I will be pressing the minister to take urgent action to address the lack of social housing in the East Antrim area.”
