UCD Sinn Féin call on Students’ Union to support Ibrahim Halawa
Sinn Féin UCD has called on the Students’ Union to support Dublin-born Ibrahim Halawa as he continues to languish in jail in Egypt.
Oisín MacCanna, spokesperson for Sinn Fein UCD said:
“Irish citizen and political prisoner Ibrahim Halawa has entered his thirty third day of hunger strike. His mass trial has been further delayed until next month after having already been delayed nine times beforehand.”
“The fate of the Irish teenager is looking bleak, with reports and testimonies saying that he has been subject to torture and MEP Lynn Boylan was denied access to his trial by Egyptian Officials.
“The 19 year-old is showing great spirit and resilience in the face of such adversity, especially given his level of treatment, welfare and the fact he is in his second year of detention without trial.
“UCD Sinn Féin calls upon Marcus O’Halloran, president of the UCD Students’ Union to show his support for Ibrahim Halawa at this time as he faces into another December in prison.”
