Milne welcomes Seamus Heaney portrait at Stormont

24 November, 2015 - by Ian Milne

Sinn Féin MLA Ian Milne has welcomed the unveiling of a painting of County Derry poet and Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney at Stormont.

Speaking after attending the unveiling, the Mid Ulster MLA said;

"I was delighted and honoured to be at the unveiling of a new portrait of the late Seamus Heaney at Stormont.

"Seamus Heaney was undoubtedly a literary giant and his work is recognised and quoted around the world.

"His writing, however, was always grounded in his home soil of County Derry and the Bellaghy area in particular.

"It was a pleasure to meet Marie Heaney, Seamus' widow, and his brother, Charlie at today's unveiling.

"I am very proud that with this painting hanging in Parliament Buildings there will always be a piece of Bellaghy at Stormont.”
