Fingal County Council must declare total cost of modular housing in Wellview- Cllr Paul Donnelly

27 November, 2015 - by Paul Donnelly

Dublin West Sinn Féin representative, Councillor Paul Donnelly has called on Fingal County Council to disclose the contracts for the 18 new modular housing units proposed for Wellview.

Cllr Donnelly said:

“I am calling on the chief executive to disclose who has won the contracts for the construction of the new modular housing units, how much is the cost of each unit and how much is the cost of developing the land in Wellview?”

“The reason for these questions is to answer the real concerns of the community in relation to modular housing and the enormous costs of the modular housing units in Ballymun. There are proposals to put 22 units in at a cost of over €4.2m that is about €191,000 each”.

“I have visited the show units in East Wall and I was shown the top of the range model for €80K, where is the extra €110K going as the people of this country already own the land”.

“I am very cognisant of the dire need for people to get out of homeless accommodation, however I also have a responsibility to ensure we get the best value for the money that the council spend, even though this is an executive function”

“I know of two houses in Corduff Park that have been boarded up for a very long time due to the serious effects of Pyrite, these houses could be opened up in three months for a fraction of the cost of two modular housing units”.

“The real, long term solution to the housing crisis is building real homes and I fear that we will be left with this temporary solution if this government get back into power after the next general election. “
