Consultation into improving soccer stadia welcomed

30 November, 2015 - by Cathal Ó hOisín

Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has welcomed the opening of the consultation process into a programme to improve soccer stadiums across the north.

 Mr Ó hOisín said,

“Soccer is one of the biggest followed sports across the North and it is important we provide the support for players and fans alike to enjoy their sport.

“I welcome the news the Minister Carál Ní Chuilín has opened up a consultation in looking at how we improve soccer stadia across the North.

“The minister is providing over £36m to be invested in stadia and grass roots soccer and this money has the potential to transform local soccer and enhance its appeal to the local community.

“The aim of the consultation is to increase the quality of stadia across the North, improve safety standards at these venues and help integrate clubs with their local communities.

“The consultation over the next 12 weeks will be an opportunity for clubs, supporters and other interested parties to help shape the final document.

“The success of both Irish teams to qualify for Euro 2016 is testament to the popularity of soccer and this investment could make future qualifications more regular.

“I would call on local clubs to engage with the consultation and ensure their voices are heard so we can improve the experience for players and fans alike.”
