McMullan welcomes announcement of access to Chinese market for pork

30 November, 2015 - by Oliver McMullan

Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has welcomed the announcement from Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill that the north has been recommended to export pork to China.

Mr McMullan said;

"This is a major boost for the agri-food sector in the North and the pork sector in particular.

"The north has an internationally recognised reputation for the excellence of our pork and this access to the Chinese market is a further stamp of approval for our farmers and producers.

"This is due to the hard work of my party colleague and Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill who has travelled to China on a number of occasions promoting our pork and lobbying on behalf of farmers to ensure that international market opportunities are maximised to their full potential.

"Hopefully this will be followed by further positive announcements from the minister to help our farmers, who have been under pressure due to international market conditions.

"This is further evidence of Sinn Féin's commitment to helping, supporting and promoting agriculture and our agri-food industry."
