Cllr Nic Cormaic calls on GAA to bar Tyson Fury fight from Croke Park
Sinn Féin’s Sorcha Nic Cormaic has launched a strong attack on newly crowned world heavy weight champion Tyson Fury’s aggressive homophobic remarks and has described his comments ignorant.
Nic Cormaic made it very clear that there is no place for Fury’s views in a modern Ireland and called on the GAA not to allow any of his bouts take place until such time as he recants his statements and apologises to the gay community.
Cllr Nic Cormaic said:
“To imply that homosexuality, in any shape or form, is similar to paedophilia is outrageous and is a reflection of Tyson’s ignorance.
“In May this year the Irish people voted overwhelmingly for a positive inclusive Ireland, which treated members of the gay and straight community equally, and for Tyson’s fight to go ahead would represent a retrograde step and should be opposed.
“He is an unfit role model and would be an anathema to what the GAA is about.”
