Ní Riada to host 'access to EU funding' delegation

4 December, 2015 - by Liadh Ní Riada MEP

Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada will next week host a delegation to the European Parliament based on access to European funding.

Speaking ahead of the delegation, Ms Ní Riada said,

"Since joining the European Union (EU) in 1973, Ireland has received over €71 billion in funding from the EU, providing significant backing to a wide range of projects and initiatives all over the country.

"Cork Port received funding for its Energy Efficiency Action Plan, Rosscarbery was awarded a grant towards the redevelopment of Warren Beach and Killavullen renovated the community hall with the subsidy received by the village.

"All of these projects show the value of EU funding and proves that the funds are there, however I feel there is a barrier in delivering the information accessing these funds.

"The aim of this delegation, which includes 23 representatives from a wide range of sectors, is therefore to inform the individuals of how EU funding can improve their sector or field.

"I have also created a booklet around the funding streams, which is aimed at providing a simple guide to access of funds and will be launched during the visit.

“EU funds are there for the betterment of EU Member States and therefore it is vital that citizens are informed." ENDS
