Moore St deserves more respect from Minister – McLellan
Sinn Féin TD and Heritage
Spokesperson Sandra McLellan today questioned Heather Humphries, Minister for
Arts and Heritage, on Moore St. and its surrounding areas. Deputy McLellan was
enquiring specifically to potential of developing these aforementioned sites
into a historical national quarter. She also enquired about the potential
economic and tourism benefits that could result from this development.
The Cork East TD asked:
“Minister, the people of Ireland have a vision for this site. Would you not agree that if 14-17 Moore St and the surrounding areas were developed as a historic battlefield site, that it would be a huge tourist attraction, and of significant economic benefit to the city, as well as encouraging repeat visitors to the city?
“The Minister was quick to dismiss this, by claiming that this was not within her remit, although this is in relation to both culture and heritage.”
