All prisoners should be treated with dignity and respect - Flanagan
Sinn Féin MLA Phil Flanagan has said all prisoners should be treated with dignity and respect.
Mr Flanagan said;
"I had asked Justice Minister David Ford about the numbers of transgender prisoners currently in the North and what measures are in place to deal with their specific needs.
"After initially being told there were no transgender prisoners at the time of my question I later received an update and apology from David Ford stating there was now in fact one person who self identified as transgender and is currently held in Hydebank Wood.
"As our society changes, it is crucial that the justice system meets the needs of everyone in the community.
"It is important all prisoners, regardless of their gender, are treated with dignity and respect at all times.”
