Galway University Hospital top of the trolley charts – Ó Clochartaigh

8 December, 2015

The number of peoples on trolleys in Galway University Hospital is the highest in the country today. Having forty people on trolleys there is totally unacceptable, according to Sinn Féin Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh and shows that the Taoiseach’s visit has made absolutely no difference whatsoever to services there.

According to Ó Clochartaigh:

‘Enda Kenny finally admitted last week that the A & E in GUH is not fit for purpose. Local people, staff and elected representatives have been raising this issue for the last number of years but the government has always turned a deaf ear.

‘Everyone knows that the A & E needs to be rebuilt and that should be progressed without further delay. We don’t want sympathy from the Taoiseach. We want action to address the immediate pressures.

‘Galway University, at 40, has the highest number of people on trollies in the country today. This brings the total to date this year to 8,206 days spent by people on trolleys in GUH. If this month’s average continues we are looking at the highest number on trollies per month this year, for December.

‘So much for the Taoiseach’s concerns, or the previous visits by Ministers Varadkar & Reilly. The government needs to provide more staff to ease the pressure on hospitals in the West. Primary Care & GP’s need more resources to take the pressure off overburdened A & E units. More step down and nursing home places need to made available to release beds in the acute system and community supports to help treat people in their own environment must be provided to keep people out of the hospital setting in the first place’.

‘This government have made an absolute mess of what was already an ineffective and unwieldy system invented by Micheál Martin,  Fianna Fáil & the PD’s. It’s crystal clear that the agenda of moving to privatisation of the health services has been a disaster for patients and must be reversed and that is what Sinn Féin in government would do’.

Ospidéal na hOllscoile Gaillimh ar bharr Cairteanna na dTralaithe – Ó Clochartaigh

Tá an líon is airde daoine ar thralaithe sa tír in Ospidéal na hOllscoile Gaillimh inniu. Le dhá scór duine ar thralaithe, tá sin i bhfad an iomarca, dar le Seanadoir Shinn Féin,  Trevor Ó Clochartaigh agus léiríonn sé nach ndearna cuairt an Taoisigh difríocht dá laghad do sheirbhísí ansin.

Dar le Ó Clochartaigh:

‘D’admhaigh Enda Kenny ar deireadh thiar thall an tseachtain seo caite nach bhfuil aonad Timpistí & Éigeandála na Gaillimhe oiriúnach dá fheidhm ar chor ar bith. Tá muintir na h-áite, an fhoireann agus ionadaithe tofa dhá rá sin le fada, ach is í an chluais bhodhar a fuaireamar ón rialtas ina leith.

‘Tá fhios ag madraí an bhaile go bhfuil gá la h-aonad nua Timpistí & Éigeandála ann agus ba chóir sin a chur chun cinn gan a thuilleadh moille. Ní trua atá uainn ón dTaoiseach, ach gníomh leis an ngéarchéim reatha a mhaolú.

‘Tá an líon is airde sa tír inniu, 40 duine, ar thralaithe in Ospidéal na hOllscoile, Gaillimh. Tugann sin ollmhéid de 8,206 lá caite ag daoine ar thralaithe san aonad sin ó thús na bliana. Má leanann pátrún na míosa seo beidh mí na Nollaig ar an mhí is airde fós i mbliana freisin.

‘Is beag an mhaith do dhaoine imní an Taoisigh, ná na cuairteanna a thug na hAirí Varadkar & Reilly ar an ospidéal roimhe seo. Caithfidh an rialtas níos mó baill foirne a chur ar fáil leis an bhrú a bhaint d’ospidéil an Iarthair. Tá gá le h-acmhainní breise ag an leibhéal Cúram Príomhúil agus do na Dochtúirí Teaghlaigh leis an mbrú a bhaint de na h-aonaid Timpistí & Éigeandála.   Tá gá le níos mó áiteanna Céim Síos agus sna Tithe Altranais a chur ar fáil chun leapacha a scaoileadh saor sa chóras géarmhíochaine agus breis tacaíochtaí pobail a sholáthar chun aire a thabhairt do dhaoine ina gcomharsanacht féin agus iad a choinneáil amach as chóras na n-ospidéil ar an gcéad dul síos.

‘Tá praiseach iomlán déanta ag an rialtas seo don chóras  mí-éifeachtach agus místuama a bhunaigh Micheál Martin & Fianna Fáil le cuidiú ón na PD’s rompu. Tá sé rí shoiléir go bhfuil an bogadh seo i dtreo príobháidiú na seirbhísí sláinte tubaisteach d’othair agus go gcaithfear tarraingt siar uaidh arís agus sin a dhéanfadh Sinn Féin i rialtas’.
