Keep vital service at Carrickfergus fire station - McMullan
Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has called on the health minister to abandon plans to reduce services at Carrickfergus fire station.
Mr McMullan said;
"I was alarmed at the proposal to remove the full time fire service from Carrickfergus fire station at weekends.
"This fire station is one of the largest in east Antrim and covers a wide area.
"It provides an absolutely vital service and any reduction in its operating hours could have far reaching and potentially life-threatening consequences.
"Rural areas in particular depend on local fire stations and firefighters who are able to get to the scene of an emergency as soon as possible.
"Not only does the station serve the local area but also provides backup to firefighters in Larne and Belfast in the event of a major emergency incident.
"I have written to the health minister asking him to review these plans and to join with me and others to oppose yet another Tory attack on frontline public services."
