Foyle ferry must be maintained

9 December, 2015 - by Cathal Ó hOisín

Sinn Féin East Derry MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has welcomed the statement from the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development that the future of the Magilligan to Greencastle ferry was discussed at recent North-South Ministerial Council.

 Mr. Ó h'Oisín said

“It is very much welcome that the Greencastle Ferry was discussed by Ministers from both North and South of the border.

“The Ministers have agreed to initiate a scoping exercise aimed at a broader and more in depth study of the service to look at the viability and impact of the service.

“This study will bring together the CEOs of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough council, Donegal County Council, and Derry and Strabane District Council and is timely as the public contract goes out shortly for the maintenance and enhancement of the ferry service.

“There was also a recognition of the importance of the Wild Atlantic Way and the Causeway Coastal Route to the local and tourist product and the importance of the ferry services in promoting this region.”
