800 new jobs at DCU welcome but government must ensure proper transport and housing infrastructure is in place- Cllr Carney Boud

9 December, 2015 - by Cathleen Carney Boud

Sinn Féin Councillor Cathleen Carney Boud has welcomed DCU’s announcement that it plans to grow 800 new jobs at Alpha – DCU’s innovation hub - over the next three years, however she has warned that the necessary housing and transport infrastructure must also be put in place.

Speaking today, Cllr Carney Boud said:

“The area of Dublin North West has been severely affected by the economic collapse and austerity measures implemented by the current government. I would hope that new jobs will provide a much needed boost for the local economy.

She continued

“DCU is home to nearly 12,000 students and hundreds of employees, making it an integral institution in north Dublin.

“The government must ensure that the housing and accommodation needs for these new workers are met and there must be a review of parking protocol in the area.

“Local residents are already suffering the effects of overflow from DCU’s current capacity and measures must be put in place to ensure that parking needs are adequately met.”
