Flanagan calls on DEL to release Steps 2 Success figures

9 December, 2015 - by Phil Flanagan

Sinn Féin MLA has called on the Department of Employment and Learning to release figures on how many people got a job as a result of the Steps 2 Success programme.

Mr Flanagan said

"Figures released to me have indicated that between the launch of this programme in October 2014 and the end of June 2015, 21,289 people participated in the Steps 2 Success programme at a total cost of £14 million to the public purse.

"But the Department for Employment and Learning has not released figures on the number of people who gained employment as a result of the programme.

"Without such figures it is impossible to judge the success or otherwise of the scheme.

"Only 8% (1,716) of those who have participated in this programme have done so voluntarily.

"This demonstrates that most people see little benefit from participating in the Steps 2 Success programme.

"The Department should publish the figures of those who have secured employment as a result of participation in this scheme so the public can judge if the £14m spent on it has been worthwhile."
