O Reilly welcomes launch of Rush text alert scheme and calls for additional Garda on the ground in Fingal
Sinn Féin Candidate for Dublin Fingal Louise O Reilly has welcomed the new Rush Text Alert Scheme as it was officially launched on Tuesday Night by Rush Community Council and An Garda Siochana.
O' Reilly said:
"The new Scheme will provide an added dimension to the people of Rush and its surrounding areas in the assisting Gardai in the fight against Crime.
8020510 number allows for people to report any suspicious activity, with
999 remaining the primary contact number when reporting crime"
Ms O Reilly stated that the scheme although very worthwhile cannot replace the need for a fully functioning Garda Station in the town.
O Reilly concluded:
"At the launch on Tuesday evening, the overwhelming majority of people present were angered at the closure of Rush Garda Station.
The closure of the station by the current Government that was preceded by the moratorium on recruitment by the previous Fianna Fáil Government, put inordinate pressure on Garda Resources in the area.
“We absolutely need more Gardaí on the ground in the area ad this view has been echoed by the Garda Inspectorate report, which recommends that up to 1,000 officers could be freed up for core policing duties.
Sinn Féin is committed to campaigning for the re-opening of Rush Garda Station.”
