Council Chairman convenes special meeting on RTÉ Investigates Programme

16 December, 2015 - by Noel Keelan

Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, Councillor Noel Keelan, in advance of today’s specially convened meeting of Monaghan County Council (4pm) addressing the content of last week’s RTÉ Investigates programme, has said;

“It is a great privilege and honour for those who seek public office to be elected by the people to represent them. It is a position that requires the highest standards. It is a position of great trust and it is a position that requires that elected representative’s work tirelessly in the public interest and not for self-interest. That applies to both public representatives and public servants alike.

“It is of paramount importance that the work carried out on behalf of the people is carried out with the highest integrity, honesty and openness at all times. Anyone who brings the important role of the elected member, or the work of the local authority, into disrepute should firstly be accorded due process under the Local Government Act’s ‘Ethical Framework for the Local Government Service’ and ‘Code of Conduct for Councillors’.

“If any wrongdoing is established following these examinations, then it follows that that individual should consider their position” concluded Cllr. Keelan.
