Lynch welcomes Agriculture Minister to flood-hit areas of Fermanagh
Sinn Féin MLA Sean Lynch welcomed Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill to Lisnaskea today to visit areas badly hit by flooding.
Sean Lynch said;
"I accompanied Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill when she visited flood-hit areas in Innishroosk on the outskirts of Lisnaskea today to see at first hand the difficulties caused by the current flooding.
"It was important for the minister to come to the area to meet with locals and hear their concerns but also to update them on work being done by her department.
"In some cases, people have had to leave their cars miles from their homes and make the rest of their journey to work or school in boats or tractors.
"In Lisnaskea in particular where roads have been closed due to flooding, some people have been forced to make detours of up to 70 miles to go about their everyday business.
"While I understand that an engineering solution alone will not solve the flooding problems in Fermanagh, it is clear more can be done to improve the road network to limit the impact of flooding.
"I have written to the DRD minister asking for a meeting to discuss the need to raise the main road between Derrylin and Lisnaskea as well as other roads in the area."
