Agriculture Minister O'Neill visits flood hit Fermanagh

6 January, 2016 - by Michelle O'Neill

Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill visited flood-hit areas in Fermanagh this week to meet local people affected by the recent flooding.

Minister O'Neill updated farmers and rural residents in the Lisnaskea area on the work currently being carried out by her department to the ongoing adverse weather conditions.

The Sinn Féin MLA had to travel by tractor through some of the worst-hit areas to see at first hand the challenges faced by locals.

Ms O'Neill praised the resilience of rural communities and pledged that her department's priority is to protect communities.

Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Sean Lynch accompanied Minister O'Neill as she met with local residents during the visit.

"It was important for the Minister to come to the area to meet with locals and hear their concerns but also to update them on work being done by her department.

"This is part of Sinn Féin's ongoing commitment to supporting farmers and rural communities, particularly those facing challenges brought about by the recent flooding," he said.
