Matt Carthy MEP takes up role as Sinn Féin Director of Elections
Sinn Féin MEP Matt Carthy has been appointed as the party’s Director of Elections for the upcoming general election.
Speaking in Dublin today Mr Carthy said:
“I am honoured and privileged to be appointment as Sinn Féin Director of Elections. The coming General Election is one of the most important in both the history of Sinn Féin and the State.
“For the first time, there is a clear and present alternative to the stale politics of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. We can break the link to the past of boom/bust policies and harsh austerity. The Right2Change platform is bringing progressive parties and individuals together in a way not previously seen.
“Sinn Féin is running 50 candidates across the 40 constituencies, and we are aiming to win every seat. There are no paper candidates in Sinn Féin.
“If the Irish people lend us their trust, Sinn Féin will abolish water charges, dismantle Irish Water and repeal the Local Property Tax. Such regressive measures have no place in society and only serve as the hangover of Fianna Fáil’s economic folly and Fine Gael’s cruel austerity.
“Sinn Féin has unveiled comprehensive policies in Health and Housing, two of the greatest challenges facing our society at present. We would build 100,000 homes and implement out plan to bring about universal health care.
“These are costed proposals with clear funding and outcomes.
“Right2Change gives us all the opportunity to work together and reject the status quo of the past. The Government mantra of chaos vs stability is a tool of fear. They can see that there is an appetite for a progressive government, one that does not give tax breaks to high earners while elderly patients languish on seats in the waiting rooms of our hospitals; seats, because we have even run out of trolleys.
“That is the legacy of Fine Gael and Labour.
“The choice facing voters is whether they want more of the same chaos from Fine Gael and Labour or if they want a progressive government led by Sinn Féin.”
