The Government if re-elected will deliver nothing more than more of the same – Adams

13 January, 2016 - by Gerry Adams

Speaking this morning on the return of the Dáil, Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has said the Government’s claims to have delivered on over 90% of their Programme for Government commitments are “completely ludicrous”.

Deputy Adams said:

“Enda Kenny earlier this week made a claim that the Government have delivered on over 93% of their Programme for Government commitments. Even the quickest glance at the document proves that claim to be completely ludicrous.

“They have failed to deliver on political reform. They have failed in their commitments to the Irish language and to Gaeltacht regions. They have failed to draw up a new National Development Plan. They have failed to establish a Strategic Investment Bank. They have refused to resolve the housing and homelessness crisis. It’s been broken promise after broken promise.

“But the Government’s biggest failure has been the perpetual chaos we have witnessed in the health service. Despite Enda Kenny’s promises, in 2015 there were over 90,000 patients on hospital trolleys. On Leo Varadkar’s watch it was the worst year on record.

“Instead of stability, the decisions of this Government have caused chaos in the lives of working families and if returned to office they will deliver more of the same - low paid jobs, a lack of housing and a health service in shambles.

“Sinn Féin is the only party going into the upcoming election with a fully costed plan to deliver universal healthcare and a health service that cherishes all of the children of the nation equally, treating citizens with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
