Irish government failing to preserve 1916 heritage - McElduff
Sinn Féin MLA Barry McElduff has said the preservation of the historic quarter in Moore Street Dublin is crucial if we are serious about developing a rich heritage for further generations.
Mr McElduff said,
“I have been approached by many people who are concerned the Irish Government is failing to maintain the proud heritage and history of Ireland.
“In the year we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising it is ironic we are fighting to preserve the buildings where the brave men and women of 1916 ended up.
“If this site was in any other country in the world it would be developed as a historic quarter for the purpose of education, tourism and remembrance.
“I am encouraging people to write to the Heritage Minister Heather Humphreys at Leinster House Kildare Street Dublin 2 demanding that he act immediately to preserve the site and bring forward a plan to develop it as a national treasure.”
