Fianna Fáil incapable of providing political alternative - Adams
Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams has this evening responded to Mícheal Martin's address to the Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis.
Gerry Adams said:
“Fianna Fáil cannot provide a credible opposition to the present Government which is merely implementing a policy plan laid out for it by Fianna Fáil.
“This includes savage cuts to public services and attacks on the welfare and living standards ordinary families and workers.
“Mícheál Martin sat in cabinet for 14 years, developing the policies of inequality and unfairness now being implemented by Fine Gael and Labour.
“Lest anyone forget, domestic water charges were Fianna Fáil’s idea in the first place.
“Mícheál Martin’s constant and silly attacks on Sinn Féin expose Fianna Fáil’s own lack of a policy platform and poverty of ideas and his fear of a growing Sinn Féin party.
“His constant stream of negativity and invective towards genuine republicanism in this centenary year of 1916 merely alienates swathes of the electorate who support core republican values.
“By ruling Fianna Fáil out of Government, Micheál Martin has made himself entirely irrelevant to the General Election.
“This election will boil down to a choice between the conservative, regressive policies of a Fine Gael-led Government or a progressive, republican government led by Sinn Féin implementing policies based on fairness, social solidarity and equality.”
