Sinn Féin Ard Fheis will coincide with momentous Rising Centenary – McDonald
Sinn Féin Deputy Leader, Mary Lou McDonald TD has confirmed the date of Sinn Féin’s upcoming Ard Fheis, which will take place in the Convention Centre on the 22nd and 23rd of April, on the eve of the centenary of the 1916 Rising.
Deputy McDonald said:
“I am pleased to confirm that Sinn Féin’s Ard Fheis will coincide with the anniversary of the Rising, taking place on the eve of the Easter Week Centenary. The theme of the Ard Fheis will also coincide with the ideals of the Rising – striving towards a United Ireland of equals and delivering a Republic rooted in equality and social justice.
“There will be a series of events throughout the weekend marking the centenary which is of such historic magnitude. There will be pageantry on Sunday with an Easter commemoration at the GPO and a reading of the Proclamation.
“Sinn Féin will also be supporting an event to ‘reclaim the Vision of 1916’ on Sunday, which will chime well with the chief themes of the Ard Fheis; honouring the republican ethos of the men and women of 1916 and supporting a vision of Ireland rooted in true democracy and inclusivity.”
