Milne welcomes funding boost for Seamus Heaney centre

19 January, 2016 - by Ian Milne

Sinn Féin MLA Ian Milne has welcomed news that the Seamus Heaney Arts and Literary Centre in Bellaghy is to benefit from a major funding boost.

Mr Milne said;

"The news that the Seamus Heaney Arts and Literary Centre in Bellaghy will benefit from a £688,000 funding boost from the Heritage Lottery Fund is very welcome.

"The late Seamus Heaney is recognised around the world as a true literary great and his work is rightly celebrated internationally.

"The centre in Bellaghy is a great addition to the wonderful legacy of Seamus Heaney as so much of his work is rooted around the Bellaghy area where he grew up.

"This will help boost tourism in the area as people come from around the world to learn more about Seamus Heaney and his poetry.

"I will also be writing to Enterprise Minister Jonathan Bell to ask what more his department can do to celebrate the legacy of Seamus Heaney and attract more tourists to the Bellaghy area."
