Seeley welcomes extension of flood protection scheme

21 January, 2016 - by Liam Mackle

Sinn Féin councillor Catherine Seeley has welcomed the announcement from Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill that the Executive's flood protection schemes will be extended to businesses.

Ms Seeley said;

"The announcement today from Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill that she plans to extend the Homeowner Flood Protection Grant Scheme will be extended to non-domestic properties is welcome.

"This means that small businesses and farms affected by the recent flooding will now be eligible to support which will allow them to take steps to make their buildings more resistant to flooding.

"I visited small businesses at Oxford Island where a number of small businesses were faced with floods recently and I have no doubt that these measures announced today will be welcomed by those business owners.

"This is a further indication of the work being carried out on a daily basis by Michelle O'Neill to help and support those dealing with the challenges of flooding."
