Ó Muilleoir calls for additional Big Apple investment
Visiting New York to meet investors and promote the Belfast International Homecoming, South Belfast MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has called for a ramping up of efforts to attract investment from North America.
In New York on Friday he met with Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, sole trustee of the New York State £134bn pension fund and encouraged him to look at investment opportunities in Belfast.
In 2014, Comptroller DiNapoli made the biggest-ever single investment in an equity fund here when he invested $15m in Crescent Capital.
“I commend the investment Comptroller Tom DiNapoli has made in building the peace in the North of Ireland and his continuing commitment to backing business growth here.
“In New York, today, I respectfully urged him to build on the groundbreaking investment in Crescent Capital by investing in further equity fund opportunities in the North.”
During his visit to New York, Ó Muilleoir also met with political, business and community leaders.
“As the fastest-growing knowledge economy in Europe, Belfast has a compelling offering. Reducing, in an affordable manner, corporation tax to the levels south off the border will dramatically enhance our proposition for foreign direct investment and help us create the jobs our community is crying out for."
