Adams calls on Louth Co. Co. to designate Woodland Park as an emergency halting site
This evening, Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD met with the Chief Executive of Louth County Council about the ongoing issues arising from the recent evictions of Traveller families from Woodland Park.
Speaking afterwards, Teachta Adams said:
“I proposed at the meeting that the council develop Woodland Park as an emergency halting site and that they apply for funding from the Government to facilitate this. The Council executive has the authority to designate this site as an emergency site until a longer term solution is agreed upon. This would take the pressure off those families who were evicted, including those who are currently encamped in the KFC car park in the town.
“On Wednesday, representatives of the Dundalk Travellers will brief members of the Oireachtas. I am hosting this event in the AV Room at 5.30pm. I appeal to all Oireachtas members from Louth, or indeed any other constituency, to attend.”
