Mary Lou McDonald welcomes victory for Cabra as Gaelscoil Bharra gets go ahead at last
Sinn Féin’s Dublin Central TD Mary Lou McDonald has welcomed news today that the contractor to build Gaelscoil Bharra has been given the go ahead to begin construction work on the new school.
Describing the news as a victory for Cabra Deputy McDonald has congratulated the staff, children and parents at the school for forcing the department into a u-turn after they were informed last week that funding for the school was to be reviewed.
Speaking this afternoon Deputy McDonald said;
“This is fantastic and long overdue news and a victory for Cabra. A massive congratulations must go to the teachers, children and parents at Gaelscoil Bharra for forcing the department into this u-turn.
“This community has been waiting 20 years for this school and previous generations have had to spend their entire time at this school being educated in pre-fab accommodation.
“Just last week the school was informed that funding for the new school was to be reviewed raising a question mark over the entire project.
“However, the community came together and made it clear in no uncertain terms that this is not acceptable and the department has now reversed that decision, cleared the funding and issued a letter to the contractor to begin work.
“I welcome this news and hope that the construction work gets under way as soon as possible.”
