Kearney to update European leaders on political developments
Sinn Féin National Chairperson Declan Kearney is visiting the European Parliament in Brussels today to brief European leaders on the latest political developments in the North.
Speaking from Brussels, Mr Kearney said;
"The European Union has been and continues to be a great supporter of the peace and political processes in Ireland over the years.
"As part of that ongoing engagement, Sinn Féin leadership figures regularly meet with senior political figures from across Europe to update them on what is happening.
"Pat Doherty and I travelled to Brussels for a range of meetings with representatives of various parties across Europe, including MEPs from Catalonia, the Basque Country, Scotland, Wales, and England.
"We also met the president of the GUE/NGL group, Gabi Zimmler and Danuta Maria Huebner, chair of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs.
"Among the items we discussed was a possible British exit from Europe and the impact it would have on Ireland.
"Europe has made a significant contribution to the development of the peace and political processes and the process of reconciliation over the last two decades and I value the continued interest of the European Union."
