Ireland's place is in the EU - Michelle O'Neill
Sinn Féin MLA and Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill has said Ireland's place is in the European Union.
Ms O'Neill said;
"There is no doubt that leaving the European Union would have a hugely negative impact on the agriculture and agri-food industries in the North.
"It is also becoming increasingly clear that the business community is also opposed to leaving the EU.
"The Executive has worked hard to market the North as a gateway to Europe in key international markets creating thousands of well-paid jobs. Exiting Europe would close this gateway in the face of those companies who have invested here.
"Our society has benefited enormously from membership of the European Union for many years and it would be sheer madness to throw that away now.
"In particular, our farmers and all those involved in the agriculture sector benefit day and daily from being in the EU and want that to continue.
"It simply does not make sense to walk away from the huge possibilities that in Europe for all sections of society in the north.
"We cannot allow the policies of Tory politicians in the south east of England to dictate the future of our agriculture and business sectors.
"Ireland's place is in Europe and we will continue to campaign that the entire island of Ireland remain in Europe."
