We must rally to save Moore St – McDonald

29 January, 2016 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald has called upon those who would not see Irish history trampled upon by developers to rally this Sunday on the Battlefield Moore St site to show the Government that they will not stand idly by while the last holdout of the leaders of 1916 is demolished to build a shopping centre that nobody wants.

A rally has been called this Sunday 31st of January at 3pm on Moore St to oppose the proposed demolition.

Deputy McDonald said:

“The disdain with which the Government holds the legacy of 1916 has been all too apparent ever since they launched their anaemic plan for the official commemorations. And now they seek to demolish the Battlefield site of Moore St Terrace to build a shopping centre that nobody wants; they seek to pave over the streets of history. I call on all who will not stand idly by while the legacy of 1916 is torn down brick by brick. I call upon them to rally this Sunday on Moore St at 3pm and show this Government that their flagrant disregard for our history is not acceptable.”
