Cllr Greg Kelly calls on DCC councillors to support Halawa motion
Dublin Sinn Féin city councillor Greg Kelly is calling for cross party support from Dublin City Council for his motion calling for the release of Ibrahim Halawa.
Speaking before the meeting tomorrow evening Cllr Kelly said:
“Ibrahim's family has been given the chance to speak with all councillors before the meeting and am hoping my fellow councillors will give their full support.
Ireland's MEP's have already pledged their full support and it is hoped that Ireland's biggest council can now follow suit.”
Cllr Kelly continued:
"I hope that councillors from all parties and none can support my motion, and I call councillors from Government parties who support it to please talk to the Ministers in government to act now before this goes on for longer.
Ibrahim Halawa was arrested when he was 17 and has now passed his 20th birthday, he is awaiting trial with 494 other people. He is an Irish citizen and the government need to intervene. “
