Minister for Environment must release funding to alleviate chronic housing overcrowding in Dublin- Cllr Doolan
Speaking tonight, Cllr. Daithí Doolan, chair of Dublin City Council housing committee, said:
'It emerged at tonight's City Council meeting, in a response I received from Dublin City Council management, that 9,485 housing applications out of a total of 28,151 are due to overcrowded housing conditions. But shockingly there has been no funding for housing extensions since 2008.
'I appeal to Minister Kelly to release funding for housing extensions immediately. It will take people off the housing list, it allows people to stay in the family home and will save money that otherwise would have to be spent on home building.'
