Sports Minister extends condolences following death of Mark Farren
Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín has expressed her sympathies following the death of footballer Mark Farren.
The 33-year-old was Derry City’s top scorer. He also played for Glenavon during a career which was remarkable on the field for his goal scoring feats and off it as he battled cancer.
The Minister said:
“Mark was an inspiration to Derry City fans in particular but to everyone who knew him. He was held in high regard not just by those who played with him but also those whom he played against and the wider sporting family.
“I was saddened to hear of his death at such a young age. His many achievements on the field and the bravery he displayed off it during his battle with illness have set him apart. His legacy will resonate for many years not just among football fans but in communities across the North West.
“My thoughts are with Mark’s family, friends and the wider football community, at this time.”
