McKay calls on Invest NI to change approach to manufacturing

8 February, 2016

North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has called on Invest NI to change their approach in order to support manufacturing.

Speaking following a rally in Ballymena at the weekend Mr McKay said:

“Invest NI does a lot of good work in attracting inward investment to the north but there is a significant challenge that it needs to meet in terms of Ballymena.

“The rally on Saturday highlighted starkly the work that needs to be a priority for Invest NI and the new Economy Minister.

“We in Sinn Féin will continue to support relief for manufacturing but there does need to be a change in the approach that Invest NI have adopted.

“We really need to see a ‘Beyond Belfast’ strategy that secures more inward investment for the likes of Ballymena and areas west of the Bann.

“We should not give up on manufacturing, we have a world class manufacturing workforce that has a quality that trumps lower wage economies

“I along with my party colleagues in Sinn Féin have been, and will continue to, proactively seek foreign direct investment into the six counties.”
