No room for sexism in society - Fearon

9 February, 2016 - by Megan Fearon

Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon has said there can be no room for sexist attitudes or language in our society.

Ms Fearon said;

"The use of offensive and derogatory language in relation to women is not acceptable and should be condemned.

"The sexist and abusive remarks apparently made by Jim Wells at an Assembly committee meeting last week are nothing short of contemptible.

"This type of 'boys club' politics is out of date and should be a thing of the past.

"Sinn Féin is committed to promoting the role of women in politics and public life and to encourage more women to take part in the democratic process at all levels.

"Sexist remarks from public representatives do nothing to help this.

"There can be no place for sexism in our society and I would call on Jim Wells to withdraw these offensive remarks and apologise."
