Rural Development Fund of £506m has made considerable change - McAleer
Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer has said that the Rural Development Programme (RDP) has brought major changes to the entire community.
Mr McAleer said,
“I would congratulate the Minister Michelle O’Neill in accessing over £269m from Europe for the RDP and match funding it with money from her department giving a total fund of £506m available to rural communities.
“By accessing almost the entire budget available from Europe the Minister has been able to improve the lives of rural dwellers.
“The money has been successfully used to create over 1200 jobs establish nearly 500 new businesses and transform villages and rural communities by the creation of sports, education and health hubs.
“It has also been used to bring high speed Internet access and transport links to areas that were isolated.
“I would appeal to rural communities to continue to engage through their Local Action Groups to ensure that the next tranche of funding can be deployed as successfully as this current funding.”
