Over 200 killed in past three months in Palestine - Martina Anderson MEP
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson will spend her last day in Palestine today, after leading a week long delegation there.
Speaking at a press conference in Makasse hospital, Ms Anderson said,
“Since October almost 200 people have been killed; almost 170 Palestinians and nearly 30 Israelis. Yesterday a 16 year old Palestinian boy was killed in Hebron during the time when we were speaking with the Governor and Mayor of Hebron.
“We send our deepest condolences to the families of all those who have been killed.
“An alarming number of arrests have taken place over the last three months resulting in hundreds being imprisoned, 330 have been held in administrative detention and among them are children.
“And every minute of every hour of the last 79 days the world has been watching with deep concern as news of the health of hunger striker Mohammed Al Qiq has circulated.
Chair of the Delegation, Ms Anderson continued,
“During these few days the Isreali policy of demolishing Palestinian properties has stepped up with over 70 demolitions and a number of these have been EU funded projects destroyed.
“Settlements are illegal under international law. It is long past the time for the EU to implement the rules and regulations governing all agreements – regardless of who they are with.
“Rest assure that we leave here carrying with us the strength of your spirit and resilience. You are unbowed and unbroken. And I feel personally proud of who you are and what you represent.” ENDS
