Real threat to fair recovery are reckless Fine Gael policies – Adams

13 February, 2016 - by Gerry Adams

Responding to comments by Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny and Michael Noonan today, Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams TD said:

“Fine Gael’s Advisers went to London to be schooled by the British Tory Party on how to run their election campaign. The scaremongering today by Michael Noonan and Enda Kenny is one of the fruits of that strategy.

“Fine Gael has been caught out seeking to inflate the amount of money available to the Government. They have attempted to buy the election with a lie, but were exposed.

“Having been caught out on their economic plans they now seek to scare the electorate. The real threat to a fair recovery are Fine Gael policies which will erode the tax base.

“Fine Gael wants tax breaks for the wealthy at a time of economic uncertainty. That is economically reckless.

“Sinn Féin's plan is for a fair recovery that meets EU rules and is costed, prudent and practical. It should be remembered that the parties that wrecked the Portuguese economy were sister parties of Fine Gael and Fianna Fail.

“When these economies were seeking relief and support, Fine Gael took the side of Germany and other cheerleaders for austerity against the needs of citizens in those states.

“That was economically wrong, unjust and against the interest of the Irish people.”
