Ó Muilleoir welcomes progress towards Cairnshill primary school rebuild
Sinn Féin MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has welcomed the announcement from Education Minister John O'Dowd that Cairnshill Primary School in south Belfast will be considered for refurbishment.
Speaking after visiting the school with Education Minister John O'Dowd and a cross-party group of MLAs, Mr Ó Muilleoir said;
“I am an admirer of everything that Cairnshill Primary School represents — commitment to excellence in education, dedication to the development of every child, and a shared education — and was delighted to see for myself the pioneering work going on there.
“I am cheered by news today that Minister O’Dowd is looking at the feasibility of ‘making a further major capital investment announcement of projects to proceed in planning in the primary sector before the end of the current mandate’ and that the Minister has asked officials to include Cairnshill among a limited number of priority projects for consideration.
“While of course there can be no guarantees from limited budgets, I am committed to continuing to lobby for a new school for Cairnshill to ensure the standard of accommodation is on a par with the top-class education delivered to children in the school."
