More GP training places needed - McLaughlin

20 February, 2016 - by Maeve McLaughlin

Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has said more training places need to be created for doctors to fill gaps in the health care system.
Ms McLaughlin, chair of the Assembly's health committee said;
"It is clear the out of hours system in the Western Trust is at crisis point.
"In order to address the backlog in the system we need to be creating more training places for General Practitioners.
"I have met representatives of Western Urgent Care to discuss the areas which need addressed in the current system.
"I am now writing to all GPs in Derry to ask them to help identify gaps in the current provision.

"We don't want to get to the stage where we are on the wrong side of a tragedy before we address the problem."
