Taoiseach’s ‘Whinger’ comments deeply offensive – Conway-Walsh

22 February, 2016 - by Rose Conway Walsh

Mayo Sinn Féin Election candidate, Cllr. Rose Conway-Walsh has described An Taoiseach’s ‘whinger’ comments as deeply offensive and insulting to people in Mayo particularly those who are struggling to make ends meet, those waiting for hospital treatment or those who have been forced to emigrate.

Cllr. Conway-Walsh said:

“There are almost 10,000 people on the live register in Mayo with many more on schemes and programmes designed to mask the real jobs crisis.  Others working on zero hours contracts and the working poor who have seen their wages decimated are not ‘whingers’, they are genuine hardworking people who need help not displays of arrogance from Fine Gael.”

“Furthermore, the Taoiseach’s comments are an insult to the six thousand plus people waiting for treatment in Mayo University Hospital and the thousands of Mayo waiting for treatment at Galway University Hospital.”

“I am calling on An Taoiseach to withdraw his comments and the other Fine Gael TD’s in Mayo to disassociate themselves from his comments.”
