FF/FG subservience to ECB should not be forgotten when voting - Carthy
Sinn Féin MEP, Matt Carthy speaking from Brussels today after he voted against the ECB Annual Report 2014, said:
"Since, I have been elected as an MEP; I have continuously used my role on the Economic & Monetary Affairs Committee to challenge the ECB on the destructive and illegal actions which were foisted on the people of Ireland by the ECB with the complicit support of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael Governments.
"It is abundantly clear that the ECB behaved not only improperly but illegally towards the people of Ireland and that we are not the only victim of the ECBs disdain and negligence. What is clear is that for a country who represents 1% of the EU population we have been saddled with 42% of the costs of a European banking crisis.
"To add insult to injury, the report produced by the Oireachtas Banking Enquiry failed to produce anything of substance.
"It is clear that both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are happy to sweep this matter under the carpet.
"But the Irish people deserve the full truth as to how and why generations to come will continue to be saddled with the costs of a private banking crisis.
“This crisis was caused by the policies of these parties and the failure of Fine Gael, Fianna Fail and Labour to stand up to the ECB. None of these parties have the appetite to really challenge the ECB, nor do they have the appetite to resolve other issues of inequality.
"Sinn Féin always has and always will, stand with ordinary families. It is they who have paid the price of the actions of the ECB, bankers, developers and failed politicians.
"Tomorrow those same families can send them a strong message by supporting Sinn Féin candidates."
