Ní Riada welcomes broadband plans from Eir
Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada has welcomed commitments from Eir that 100,000 premises in rural locations around Ireland will get 1Gbps broadband speeds in the next 12 months.
Ms Ní Riada said,
"Many find it unbelievable in this day and age that there are broadband-deprived areas, but for thousands of people in places such as Cobh, Youghal and Kildorrery, it is a reality.
"As technology has developed so far that it is nearly impossible to go a day without using or referring to the internet, a lack of broadband can really halt families, businesses and students.
"Therefore this commitment from Eir is a most welcome development and it is something successive governments have failed to do.
"Rural areas cannot be left behind in terms of technology advancement and therefore this, and similar projects, need to be rolled out right across the state." ENDS
