McCartney calls on PPS to review Daniel Hegarty decision

8 March, 2016 - by Raymond McCartney

Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has called on the Public Prosecution Service to review not to prosecute a British soldier who shot dead a teenager in Derry in 1972.

Mr McCartney said;

"The decision by the Public Prosecution Service not to go ahead with a prosecution in the case of a British soldier who shot dead 15-year-old Daniel Hegarty in Derry in 1972 is hugely disappointing.

"I would call on the PPS to review this decision.

 "I will be contacting the PPS urgently to discuss their decision in this case.

"The family of Daniel Hegarty, like the families of all victims of the conflict, are entitled to truth and justice."
