Farmers should apply early and online for Single Farm Payment – McMullan

8 March, 2016 - by Oliver McMullan

Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has said the application process for Single Farm Payments has opened and farmers should apply online.

 Mr McMullan said,

“This is the earliest that application process has opened and the Minister Michelle O’Neill has done so in order to make payments early this year.

“However in order to meet her tight deadline we need 70% of farmers to use the on line application service which speeds up the process as it takes an average of 10 weeks to fill in a paper application.

“Filling in the application online cuts back on that time and makes correcting mistakes easier as improvements have been made to the online version.

“This has included notification of error, a receipt and summary of the claim, as well as access to farm maps, which when changed automatically update all fields in the application form.

“It is therefore crucial we get the message out to farmers that by applying early and online it will speed up the entire process.

“I would also like to congratulate the Minister Michelle O’Neill for the record number of payments paid out in December this year and call on farmers to get online in order to improve that figure this year.

“Farmers can now access the online helpline from the department website on [email protected] .”
