Leo Varadkar still accountable for trolley crisis – Louise O’ Reilly TD
Sinn Féin’s Louise O’ Reilly TD has raised concerns about the huge numbers on trolleys again today, and has asked that Leo Varadkar make himself available to the Dáil for questioning.
Deputy O’ Reilly said:
“Today there are 493 people lying on hospital trolleys. It is a situation that has gone on for far too long, without any effective government action. It is intolerable that conditions have not yet improved.
“The current crisis is due a chronic lack of investment, structural inequality in the health system as well as an incapacity in the service to deal with spikes in the system – leading to chronic overcrowding and shortages of beds.
“If the current sham fight between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil persists, real issues such as our health crisis will not be addressed and people will continue to suffer. It is simply not good enough.
“Leo Varadkar needs to come before the Dáil and make himself available for questions, including the scandal of the trolley crisis. Those in positions of responsibility cannot now absolve themselves of their duties. There is still a country to run, regardless of civil war disputes and parties struggling to differentiate themselves.”
