McCann backs calls for panel of redress for victims of abuse
Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann has backed calls from victims and survivors of historic child abuse to set up a panel of redress to meet their needs.
Ms McCann, who spoke at the launch of a report from a panel of experts on the issue at the Assembly this morning, said;
"I welcome today's visit by victims and survivors of historic child abuse in the North to Stormont to raise this important issue.
"I support their call for a comprehensive panel of redress to be established to meet their needs.
"This should include counselling services, access to records, and emotional and material support to help address the legacy of the horrific abuse they suffered.
"Such a panel should be set up as soon as possible and victims and survivors themselves should play a key role in shaping it and its work."
